Security man charged with stealing

Takoradi, July 5, GNA- John Norvisi, security-man at Captain Hooks Restaurant in Takoradi on Monday appeared before a Sekondi Magistrate's Court for allegedly conspiring to steal and stealing. He pleaded not guilty and was granted 50 million cedis bail to re-appear on July 29, 2004.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joe Hedidor, said at about 2030 hours on June 8, this year, two Germans, Dr Jurgen Zimare and Ralph Berchtentreur and a Lebanese, Sayed Ghajar, went to the restaurant to have meals.

He said they parked their cars in the yard of the restaurant, while the accused was on duty.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said when the three persons went back to their cars after the meal, they discovered that they have been broken into and some valuable items have been taken away.

He said 60 million cedis cash was stolen from the car of Ghajar, a lap-top computer and accessories, credit card, Lufthansa visa card, and a cash of 500 Euros from the car of Dr Zimare and a laptop computer and accessories, digital camera, visa credit card, a passport, alien card, Standchart cheque book and cash of 9 million cedis and 200 Euros from the car of Berchtentreur.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said the accused was nowhere to be found when the theft was detected but resurfaced thirty minutes later. When he was questioned, the accused said he was sent by some customers to buy them cigarettes from a spot about 200 meters from the restaurant.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said the accused was arrested and charged with the offence.
