The Sekondi/Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (STCCI) has announced that it has withdrawn from the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. At an emergency meeting, the STCCI members said the national body had not been results -oriented hence their decision.
Mr. Cadmond Dadzie, Vice Chairman of the Chamber, said the National Chamber had over the years failed to train members, conduct market research and access pre-promotion of events and trade missions and lacked responsible resource management. He said the STCCI decision to break away from the mother body was not “an act of malice” but to help the chamber to conduct its activities in a more independent and coordinated manner for the benefit of the business community.
Mr Dadzie said there was the need for members to protect the brand and image of the Western Chamber of Commerce and that all legal documents had been concluded to ensure that the STCCI was fully an autonomous body.
He added that their split from the national chamber was also not unusual since in Nigeria, Zambia among other countries, chambers of commerce were independent bodies and only affiliated to the National association.
