Mampong (Ash), Sept. 28, GNA - The Right-Reverend Dr Sam Prempeh, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, on Sunday inaugurated the Sekyere Presbytery of the church at Asante-Mampong to become the 14th presbytery in the country. The new presbytery, which has the Reverend Thomas Kwaku Boakye as its first chairman, comprises Mampong, Nsuta, Kumawu, Ejura, Sekyedumase, Wiamoase, Jamasi, Effiduase, Atebubu, Yeji, Benim and the Agona District presbytery.
Inaugurating the new presbytery, Rt. Rev Dr Prempeh reminded the congregation of the onerous task of propagating the gospel of Christ. To accomplish this task therefore, Rt. Rev Prempeh urged them to live above reproach so that they could impact positively on those living in sin and were desperately looking for liberation. He asked Christians not to allow doctrinal differences to divide them, saying, the church cannot save except the individual had the desire to have his life transformed through the atonement of the blood of Jesus Christ.
Rt. Rev Prempeh told the newly inaugurated presbytery that the road ahead was rough and tough and they therefore needed to be innovative to succeed, pointing out that innovation was hooked to development. He urged Ghanaians to view innovation as something positive and said those who kick against innovative efforts do so for fear of losing fame.
Rt. Rev Prempeh said Mampong had enjoyed better facilities in the fields of education, health and religion because of the unity that existed between the church, traditional rulers and the government and prayed for its sustenance.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, Mamponghene, appealed to the elected presbytery to establish a vocational institute at Mampong to serve the Sekyere West District and beyond.
He promised to release land for such an institution on demand and hoped his appeal would be considered.
