Tepa (Ash), July 8, GNA - Retired public servants in the Ahafo-Ano North district of Ashanti have praised the government and the assembly for the numerous development projects currently going on in the district particularly on education and feeder roads. They, however, suggested that contract must be awarded to competent contractors who have the needed resources and capacity to do qualitative work and complete projects on schedule.
They made the appeal at a reception hosted by the district assembly for senior citizens in the district at Tepa on Friday to mark the 46th Republic Day anniversary celebration.
The senior citizens also appealed to the government to provide some support to the aged to make them have decent standard of living as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.
They expressed their satisfaction on freedom of expression in the country but said people must act responsibly and stop hiding behind the freedom to insult people in responsible positions without any justification.
Speaking at the reception, Nana Eric Agyemang Prempeh, the District Chief Executive, commended the senior citizens for their contributions to the development of the country and appealed to them to pay periodic visits to the various departments in the district to share their rich experiences with the younger generation.
He urged them to educate people in their various communities to respect the rights, freedom and legitimate interests of other people and refrain from doing acts detrimental to the welfare of others. The DCE reminded all Ghanaians to help sustain the modest economic gains so far achieved in the country and continue to honour their tax obligations to enable the government generate more funds to develop the country.
