Senior Journalist assaulted at Bawku

Bawku(UER), Jan. 04, GNA - Mr A. A. Mbord, a Senior Journalist and Upper East Regional Correspondent of Ghanaian Times, was on Tuesday evening assaulted by an unknown assailant for attending the Samanpiid Festival organised by Kusaug Traditional Area at Bawku. This was after he had asked his assailant at the Garu-Widana Station whether he (Mbord) could get a vehicle to Garu, his hometown.

Narrating the incident to Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Mbord said during the reception after the festival, he requested Mr Adinga, Bawku Municipal Health Insurance Scheme Manager, to put him at the Garu-Widana Station in the evening on his motorbike. He said when they arrived at the station there was no vehicle therefore, he inquired from a youngman among a group at the station as to whether a vehicle would be available to pick him to Garu.

Mr Mbord said the youngman became furious and told him (Mbord) that they did not celebrate Samanpiid. He said in his attempt to sit on the motorbike, the youngman slapped him from behind and sensing danger Mr Adinga sped off and they left the scene for further attack. Mr Mbord said when they returned to the reception, they met Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Garu District Police Commander A.Y Ahmed and narrated the incident to him and other dignitaries including the Bawku Municipal, Bawku West and Garu-Tempane District Chief Executives.
