Several youth benefit from GYEEDA and LESDEP in Winneba

Some 190 youth in the Effutu Municipality have benefited from Ghana Youth Employment Entrepreneur Development Agency (GYEEDA) and Local Enterprise and Skills Development (LESDEP) programmes.

They are made up of 129 dressmakers who each received a sewing machine and 40 hairdressers each of whom was given a dryer under GYEEDA programme while under the LESDEP, four persons who are dress-designers each received an over-lock machine.

Ten others got an industrial machine each, two who are bakers had an oven each and five who are caterers each had cooking ware and ice chest.

Mr Samuel Ivi, Effutu Municipal LESDEP Coordinator, told the beneficiaries that the items given to them under the LESDEP programme are not free or rewards and that they should work hard and pay for them as agreed on.

Nana Boateng, the Effutu GYEEDA Director, said the beneficiaries were sponsored by Asongtaba Cottage Industries exchange programme in collaboration with his outfit.

Mr John Kofi Kussachin, Effutu Municipal Coordinating Director who made the presentation on behalf of Nii Ephraim, Municipal Chief Executive, advised the beneficiaries to take good care of the items and work with them to better their lives.

Mr Kofi Ennin, Project Assistant of Asongtaba Cottage Industry exchange programmes, said the items given to the beneficiaries under GYEEDA programme is part of the initiative by the government to equip people who were sponsored to be trained.

He said the items given them under the GYEEDA programme were free of charge and that whosoever collect money in respect of the programme should be reported to the office of GYEEDA at the Municipal Assembly.

Mr Ennin said a new component under the programme called Community Transport Project would soon start in the Central Region and that the beneficiaries of that project would undergo training on how to use the vehicles and how to service them.
