The Ashanti Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare has asked employees of the department to show more commitment to the protection of the weak and vulnerable.
Mr Jacob Achulo said they needed to raise performance to provide comfort and security to the under-privileged and socially disadvantaged.
He said this when opening a week-long training course for 46 supervisors and care-givers at the Kumasi Children’s Home.
The aim of the course was to help equip them with relevant skills and techniques in child care.
Mr Achulo said the success of every nation and the wellbeing of its people largely depended on good social welfare system and it was for this reason that the department needed to be assisted to operate efficiently.
He spoke of plans to organize periodic in-service training courses to update the skills and competencies of the staff.
Mr Achulo used the platform to make an appeal to churches, individuals and organizations to help fund an on-going dormitory block at the Children’s Home to provide enough space for the kids there.
The Department’s Programme Director of Child Rights Protection, Mrs Patricia Kyeremanteng Berchie, said they had established a day care centre and basic school for children at the Home.
