Sissala West MP and Iranian Embassy to establish mango plantation

Wa, March 01, GNA- Mr. Haruna Bagiya, the Member of Parliament for Sissala West, in collaboration with the Iranian Embassy would establish a mango plantation by May to engage the youth in mango production.

The project, which would be sponsored by KRG a subsidiary of the Iranian Embassy, would begin with a five-acre land on experimental basis.

Mr Bagiya told the GNA in an interview on Wednesday that the project was to provide jobs for the numerous unemployed youth in the area. He said they had enough arable land that was also congenial for mango cultivation and expressed the hope that the youth would take advantage of the project to better their lots in the constituency. On other development projects, he said he would work closely with the Sissala West District Assembly to improve on health facilities, roads and agriculture since the district capital is far away from major hospitals in the region.

"As a new district assembly, we lack a lot of basic amenities and it is now time for all of us to put our hands on deck to bring development to our people."

He said the poor road network was a worry to farmers in the area because they could not cart their foodstuff from their farms to marketing centres.

"Under the circumstances, we are doing our best to at least bring a little bit of comfort to the people in the area." he said. 01 March 2006
