Mamponteng (Ash), Feb. 25, GNA- Nana Asante Frempong, Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Caucaus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs) has called on the party leadership to ensure that the provision in the party's constitution that aspiring parliamentary candidates did not campaign in constituencies where there are sitting MP's, are not flouted.
"The enforcement of this provision was very crucial because there is enough evidence that many aspiring candidates are seriously campaigning in the constituencies where there are sitting MP's.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Mamponteng on Monday after some interactions with the Party Executives on the demarcation of the Kwabre District and a way to have smooth voting in the constituency, Nana Asante Frempong pointed out that, the issue was very disturbing to sitting MP's because they could also come down to defend their positions but were hampered by their parliamentary responsibilities.
Nana Asante Frempong, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kwabre said there was the need for the party hierarchy to insist on the ban and should not gloss over it, since anything contrary would compel the sitting MPs to abandon their parliamentary duties and also campaign. "Those aspiring to become Members of Parliament after all have no better credentials than the fact that sitting MP's should give way for them to also come to Parliament".
The MP said there was the need for all persons above the age of 18 to register so that they could exercise their franchise in the general elections in December this year.
