The Bortianor township on Friday was thrown into a state of confusion as trigger-happy men fired live ammunition on the ground, thereby injuring six people, three of whom are in critical condition.
The unfortunate incident happened in the late hours of the day when the priest's mortal remains arrived.
Reports indicate that one of the Asafoastes present started firing indiscriminately on the ground, forcing onlookers to run for their lives.
The victims were quickly rushed to Weija Municipal Hospital for treatment but were later referred to Korle Bu for further treatment. Three of them would have to undergo surgery.
"This particular guy fired a gun and all closer to the scene fled only to hear this unfortunate news," an eyewitness said.
Residents in the area are appealing to the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare and President Akufo-Addo to investigate the matter and punish the culprits.
