Sleeping farmer killed by night train

Bekwai (Ash) July 7, GNA - The people of Fawoman near Asante Bekwai were thrown into a state of shock and mourning when news broke out on the morning of Tuesday July 4, that Akwasi Gyasi, a middle-aged farmer from the town had been killed by a Kumasi-Takoradi bound night passenger train at the Bekwai-Kensere section of the rail line. The deceased, who was said to have been having a nap on the rail was run over by the train the very night it resumed work after a hold up of rail services along that route.

Mr. Joe Yamson the Bekwai Railway station master who briefed the mangled body of the deceased was conveyed to the Bekwai Hospital morgue. The station master said the driver of the train confessed having spotted the head of the deceased on the rail but it was too late to save him since that section was a sloppy curve.

When contacted, the Bekwai Police confirmed the story and said investigations were still on-going.
