SouthEastern Montessori Academy celebrates Teachers Day

Madam Amina Omar, Proprietress of Southeastern Montessori Academy, has urged teachers to desist from all forms of negative tendencies that may bring the teaching profession into disrepute.

She said absenteeism, alcoholism and drug abuse on the part of teachers, were some of the factors that contributed to low performances in some schools.

Madam Omar made the call at the Teachers Day celebration of the school at Mensah Bar, near Dodowa, in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater-Accra Region at the weekend.

She said teachers must be role models, show compassion and above all, exhibit a high sense of professionalism.

Madam Omar urged teachers to take advantage of the numerous courses being offered by the Ghana Education Service to upgrade their competence.

She commended the teachers of the school for their hard work which had enabled it to chalk successes over the years.

Mr Daniel Sorkpor, Headmaster of the school, advised the students to take their lessons seriously, and desist from examination malpractices, which he said, could jeopardize their future.

He gave the assurance that the teachers would work harder than before, to improve upon the performance of the students.

The school scored 100 percent in the 2014 and the 2015 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE).
