Inspite of all the advice from the police to drivers to avoid alcohol when driving, some of them have the effrontery to drive even when heavily drunk.
On Thursday afternoon, the Sunyani Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) upon a tip off from Space fm, arrested a 34-year old driver of an Urvan bus, with registration number, BA6944 C, Kwame Frimpong, for being drunk while driving. A caller had earlier phoned the popular radio station to inform them about the state of the driver. The Director of the station immediately dispatched his men to the MMTU branch of the Ghana Police Service, whose swift response led to the arrest of driver.
The driver, who plies between Sunyani town and Baakoniaba, initially claimed he had not taken any alcoholic drink but at the office of the MTTU, his alcoholic intake measured 104 on the Alco meter.
He later told the officers at the MTTU that he would not drive until Monday, by which time he wouldn't be drunk.
Chief Inspector Nimo told Space fm that the driver shall be arraigned before court as soon as possible. He commended the station for its societal role and urged them to continue of the good works.
He also advised drivers not to take alcoholic drinks when driving in order to have better control over their vehicles.
