Spirit haunt Elmina chief

Drama unfolded at Elmina in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region on Thursday, when the paramount chief of the area, Nana Kwadwo Conduah VI, openly told hundreds of people including chiefs, queen mothers and other people at his palace that he was being haunted by the gods of the land.

According to him, he has not been able to sleep ever since the President John Dramani Mahama went to the area to cut a sod for the commencement of the fish processing factory.

Nana Conduah disclosed this when the presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, visited him at the palace to find out from him why the chiefs in the area refused to attend the sod cutting ceremony of the processing factory recently.

Nana Conduah stated that the land had been allocated for the gods of the land, hence the need for the assembly to perform some rituals on it before they could construct the project there.

“The gods are really angry about the situation and they can’t even allow me to sleep, so we would consult the President when he comes back from his trip to find a lasting solution to the problem, we are even ready to allocate another land for them for the construction of the project,” he added

“We are not against the President, but his Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has not been showing respect to the chiefs in the area ever since he had the appointment and he always refuse to consult us on any project he wants to embark upon,” he said

The paramount chief hinted that the traditional council earlier met with the MCE and informed him that the land was earmarked for a fishing harbour during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government era but the arrogant MCE ignored them.

Nana Conduah revealed that attempt by the traditional council to advise the MCE on the land proved futile since he told them that he was acting on political instruction.

Dr Nduom expressed concern about the way the project was cited close to the sea, adding the factory could easily be destroyed by the sea.

He called for speedy re-construction of the Brenya Bridge to boost economic activities in the area.

Dr Nduom stressed the need for the people in the area to unite to move the area forward since the area had been deprived of many developmental projects due to the chieftaincy issue which was settled recently at the Supreme Court.
