St Joseph Parish celebrates 100 years

Liati (V/R), Feb 27, GNA - The St Joseph Parish of Liati in the Ho Diocese of the Catholic Church on Sunday held a Pontifical High Mass to climax the parish's centenary celebration that brought together Catholics from all parts of the region.

It was on the theme, "Catholicism- Achievements, Failures and Challenges For A Better Church."

In a speech the Most Reverend Francis Lodonu called on members of the parish to hold on to the Catholic faith and remain committed. He urged them to turn a new leaf, desist from moving from one church to the other but should remain "total Catholics and holy since the Catholic Church is a holy one."

"Cultivate the spirit of love and oneness to be able to move forward, stronger in the faith," Bishop Lodonu said. Rev Fr Matthias Frank Denutsui, the parish priest, told the GNA in an interview that though it had not been easy for the parish and for the past 104 years it had chalked successes in education and missionary. He said the major problem facing the parish was leadership. "The people have the faith but are not devoted to assume leadership positions, especially the youth".
