The leaders of the two Asafo Companies and other groups involved in the celebration of the Aboakyer festival, have signed an undertaken with the Central Regional Security Council (REGSEC), to ensure absolute peace in Winneba.
The agreement was signed on Friday at a meeting with the Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Sarpong and his Deputy Madam Queenster Opokuwa Sawyer and the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Nii Ephraim.
The others were DCOP Ninsin, Central Regional Police Commander and Security Personnel of the Central Regional Security Council (REGSEC), the Effutu Municipal District Security Council (DISEC) as well as the representatives of Tuafo No. 1 and Dentsifo No 2 Asafo companies and the Otuano Royal House.
They unanimously agreed, among other things that the stepping on the live Deer caught by the Asafo companies would not be performed during this year’s Aboakyer festival.
They agreed that Neenyi Bondzie from the Otuano Royal House would be the last person in the retinue of the entourage of chiefs and elders that would grace the occasion.
It was also agreed “any breach of this arrangement at the meeting chaired by the Regional Minister would have legal implications.”
The meeting was called by the Regional Minister to resolve, among other things, the impasse between the various factions, as to who steps on the deer.
It was unanimously agreed that efforts should be made to revoke the interim injunction put on the celebration of the festival by an Agona Swedru Circuit court.
