Stanbic Bank Ghana has reiterated its commitment to driving sustainability in Ghana by partnering with the Ghana Forestry Commission to plant 4,500 trees across 10 locations nationwide in commemoration of this year’s Green Ghana month.
The tree planting exercise, which took place in Accra, Ho, Takoradi, Sunyani, Kumasi, Tamale, Bolga, Wa, Sampa, and Dormaa, forms part of the brand’s broader sustainability efforts and its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals to create a better Ghana and ultimately achieve net zero emissions by the year 2035, in line with the Standard Bank Group’s objectives on sustainability and climate change.
Speaking at a brief ceremony after the exercise, Francis Ayisi, Head of Sustainability at Stanbic Bank Ghana, emphasized the significance of the initiative.
He said, "Planting trees is not just about putting seedlings in the ground; it's about securing a future for ourselves and generations to come. Stanbic Bank has been here for over 160 years and intends to impact lives and businesses for the next 100 years. The only way to achieve that is by preserving the environment in which businesses can thrive."
"Today, we sowed 4,500 seeds for a greener tomorrow, planting roots of change across 10 locations," Our journey to sustainability blossoms here, but it doesn't stop now. Join us in nurturing our planet: plant trees, shrink your carbon footprint, and champion environmental action. Every effort cultivates a brighter, healthier world," he added.
Kwabena Boamah, Managing Director of Stanbic Investment Management Services (SIMS) shared that, “Ghana is our home, and we drive her growth. We will continue to explore ways to actively contribute to the growth of the country. Sustainability is everyone’s responsibility, and we are glad to take part in this exercise for a greener tomorrow. SIMS recently launched a Responsible Investment Initiative to deliver value to all stakeholders, and go beyond financial gains for investors, to make an impact in society and on the environment. Let us all play our part in ensuring that we promote sustainability and contribute to making a greener and better world.”
Stanbic Bank Ghana has consistently demonstrated its commitment to environmental sustainability through various initiatives, including sponsoring the Ghana Garden and Flower Show for the past 11 years and becoming the first bank in Ghana to join IFC’s climate finance advisory program to improve the bank's capability to extend climate-smart investments, marking a substantial scale-up in their environmental initiatives.
Last year, the bank partnered with the Forestry Commission to plant 2,115 seedlings across a hectare of land at the Chipa Forest Reserve in Agomeda, Greater Accra. Doubling up the efforts in 2024, about 300 Staff of the Bank participated in planting of 4,500 trees across Ghana, specifically, Chipa Forest Reserve, Kumasi High SHS, Sonrise SHS in Ho, Sunyani SHS, Ahantaman Girls SHS, Dormaa SHS, Sampa NMTC, Bolga SHS, Wa SHS and Kumbugu SHS in Tamale.
