The Odikro of Ekumfi Eyisam in the Ekumfi District of the Central Region Nana lmprem Asabooh VIII has warned the youth of the town to stop engaging in early sex leading to teenage pregnancies.

According to him, the high rate at which teenagers between the ages of 14 to 16 years are getting pregnant in the town is a huge source of worry for him, hence he’ll start cracking the whip on such ‘culprits’.

Addressing the people of Ekumfi Eyisam during the Akwambo Festival over the weekend, Nana lmprem Asabooh VIII, charged parents to firm in exercising their responsibility and not allow teenage pregnancies to ruin the education of their daughters.

“Any parents who will allow his or her Child to be pregnant will be punished by the Traditional Council because 12, 15, 18 years are ‘sharing the same clothes’ with their parents which is very bad and disgraceful to Ekumfi Eyisan community as a whole. I am warning each and every child in my community to stay away from early sex for it is disgracing me as a chief and the whole community.”

He added: “My colleagues always laugh at me when we meet at functions which make want to isolate myself so I am warning all of you to stop teenage pregnancy now.”

Kasapa News Yaw Boagyan reports that Nana lmprem Asabooh VIII, advised the parents to make good of President Akufo-Addo’s free Senior High School policy and ensure that their children have at least secondary education.

It is time for Ekumfi to get people who are educated to help improve the Ekumfi District so I am encouraging every Parent in the Ekumfi Eyisam here to see to it that their wards are educated. I am personally giving scholarships to students who are good academically to get to the University so that we’ll in the future have more educated and knowledgable people in Ekumfi Eyisam to help develop the town.

Nana lmprem Asabooh VIII promised to ensure that teachers in Ekumfi Eyisam get a decent place of accommodation.
