Strengthen Guidance and Counselling Unit- GES Urged

President of Devine Mother and Child Foundation,DMAC,an NGO based in Koforidua, Edmund Duodu,has called on the Ghana Education Service to strengthen its Guidance and Counselling Units in all Schools and build the confidence of pupils and students to report cases of abuse in schools.
According to Edmund Duodu,the rate at which sexual abuse and other forms of abuses are being recorded in schools,raises doubt about the effectiveness of Counselling and guidance units in public schools.

He said this at Akyem Tafo government Hospital when he visited the 15 year old JHS pupil who has been defiled by her 50 year old Teacher,Korli Tetteh ,at Samlesi a village in the Upper Manya Krobo District in the Eastern Region.The Eastern Regional Domestic Violence and Victim supports Unit,DOVSSU,went to pick the victim from her school to the hospital for treatment since she has been bleeding intermitently three months after being defiled because the parents her parents failed to send the victim to the hospital. The parents are alleged to have taken Ghc1500 from the suspect to bury the case.

DMAC foundation has is bearing medical cost of the victim at the hoapital and help seek justice for her.

The suspect escaped Police arrest today as he has deserted his home to Somanya.
