Strengthen internal control mechanisms – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has requested agencies and departments to reinforce internal control mechanisms and work diligently to comply with recommendations of the Auditor’s General Department to ensure efficient management and operations.

The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, said this at the inauguration of a nine-member governing board of the Management Development Productivity Institute on Tuesday.

“The President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has requested all government agencies and departments to strengthen internal control mechanisms to ensure that there is maximum productivity and efficiency,” Mr Iddrissu told journalists.

The Minister charged the Board Members to place higher productivity on their agenda and strive to avoid many queries raised in the Auditor’s General report, saying, look at the past reports of the Auditor General for remedial action.

He said the challenge with the nation was that there was no verifiable instrument for measuring productivity, thus encouraging people to assume or guess workers output which often did not commensurate with compensation.

Mr Iddrisu also directed the board to begin working on the relationship between productivity and workers welfare as well as educate the public to understand how the public service work.

Mr Moomen Alhassan, the Chairman of the board pledged on behalf of the members to work hard to justify the confidence the President had reposed in them and continue to offer consultancies and training programmes for Ghana and the sub region to raise productivity.

The board members took two oaths, the official oath and the oath of secrecy, and pledged to deliver effectively and efficiently.
