Student fires a pistol and injures a colleague

Bolgatanga, Nov 4, GNA - A 22-year-old student of the Tempane Senior Secondary School in the Bawku East District, Salaam Haruna, is in the grip of the Bawku police for firing a locally manufactured pistol on campus and wounding a fellow student.

Police Inspector Thomas Agbanyo, Upper East Police Public Relations Officer, told newsmen in Bolgatanga on Tuesday that on October 26 another student identified as Winpini Michael, who is now on the run, brought a locally manufactured pistol to the school.

Michael showed the pistol containing 22 live ammunitions to his colleagues Salaam Haruna and Louis Awuni Kofi, all students in SS two. He said Haruna took the weapon from Michael, fired and injured Kofi.

Winpini bolted and is being sought by the police. Haruna, was grabbed and would be arraigned before court soon. Inspector Agbanyo urged school authorities to institute regular checks on students in their dormitories and to mete out swift disciplinary action on recalcitrant students.
