Dalun/Nawuni (NR), March 22, GNA - Students from selected schools in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions who are pursuing courses in water related courses, on Monday, visited the Dalun water reservoir and the Nawuni water intake supply centre, both in the Tolon/Kumbungu District to mark "World Water Day.
The students, numbering about 90 and who are from the Polytechnics and Training Colleges took advantage of the World Water Day to visit the area.
They first visited the Nawuni Water intake centre where fresh water is drawn directly from the Black Volta to the Dalun reservoir for treatment and supplied to the public.
Mr Cletus Apana Amoah, Northern Regional Administrative Officer of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) who accompanied the students, said the Tamale water supply system was still using old equipment thus hampering efficient water delivery.
He said the Northern Region decided to celebrate the Day at Dalun so that the students could learn, at first hand how the system works and the difficulties in water delivery.
He expressed the hope that the visit would equip the students with the information they would need to be able to educate the public to appreciate the problems confronting the GWCL.
