Asikasu (B/A), May 13, GNA- The Sunyani Municipal Assembly has since 2004 constructed 50 boreholes estimated at 35,000 Ghana cedis in deprived communities in the area.
Mr Kwame Twumasi-Awuah, Municipal Chief Executive, disclosed this at Asikasu on Tuesday when he inaugurated 10 boreholes, which was jointly constructed by the Assembly and African Assistance Plan, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), at the cost of cost 6000 Ghana cedis, in 10 communities in the municipality.
The communities are Asikasu, Kyeremekrom, Mankran, Nkrankrom, Yeboahkrom, Atuahenekrom, Tanom, Chiraa Sukuumum and Domsesere. Mr Twumasi-Awuah said government was committed to executing development projects in deprived areas and urged the people to vote for the NPP to enable the party to continue with its development programmes. He said the assembly was constructing a health center at Nkrankrom and appealed to the people to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme to enable them to access quality health care delivery. Mr Twumasi-Awuah asked parents to take advantage of the Capitation Grant and School Feeding Programme and enrol their children in schools. Bishop David Donkor, Executive Director of the NGO, said it had rehabilitated 72 boreholes in the Northern Region. He indicated that the NGO also undertook a de-worming exercise that covered 6000 children in the Brong-Ahafo Region last year and said 10,000 children would be de-wormed by the end of this year. Bishop Donkor appealed to beneficiary communities to maintenance the boreholes so that the could last long. Nana Kwaku Wiafe, Chief of Asikasu, commended the NGO for assisting in the execution of the project. He appealed to the Assembly to reconstruct the Nkrankrom-Asikasu road to facilitate economic activities in the area.
