Sunyani, Jan. 16, GNA - Mr. Anthony Kofi Kusi, Brong-Ahafo Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Friday expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in which cases reported to the police about National Democratic Congress (NDC) activists are handled. He said several complaints made to the police about intimidation, assault and brutality meted out to NPP followers by some supporters of NDC in some parts of the region had not received any response. Addressing a press conference in Sunyani he said "If such issues are not properly checked and corrected the peace being currently enjoyed in the region can be disturbed."
He said "the NDC has resorted to the use of intimidation and violence since December 22, 2008 when the hearing of the Asutifi South constituency parliamentary election suit involving Yiadom Boakye-Boateng of NPP and the incumbent parliamentarian Alhaji Collins Dauda began at the high court in Sunyani".
The Regional Secretary said on the day of the hearing the police had a hectic time controlling the NDC youth after proceedings at the court and alleged that the youth of the NPP who were present had to wait for more than an hour before they could be escorted out of the court premises by the police.
He alleged that on January 12 NDC supporters exhibited this unruly behaviour at the court's premises and NPP supporters had to be restrained by the party executives to avert any bloody clash. Mr. Kusi said the NDC supporters, after the court session, threatened to waylay and attack NPP supporters in the constituency and this they carried out at Mehame where they erected an unauthorised blockade on the main road to Dadiesoaba. Mr. Kusi appealed to the security agencies to beef up security at the High Court on dates on which the case would be heard.
