The Sunyani West District Assembly says it will ban the selling and patronage of alcoholic beverages at Odumase, the district capital, if operators continue to sell the drink to minors.
Mr Martin Obeng, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said it was unlawful for drinking bar operators to sell alcoholic beverages to teenagers below 18 years.
He said this whiles interacting with members of the Awuah-Dumase Traditional Council as part of his familiarization visit to the area.
The DCE was accompanied by almost all heads of departments and agencies in the district.
Mr Obeng expressed discomfort about alcoholism, sexual promiscuity and drug abuse among boys and girls in the town, and underlined the need to use the radical approach to tackle the situation.
“We are going to enact and enforce bye laws so that offenders would be punished to serve as deterrent to others”, he said.
Nana Yaw Boakye, the Atipimhene of Awuah-Dumase, urged the DCE to welcome views from the assembly members and traditional rulers to facilitate development in the district.
He appealed to the assembly to continue and complete suspended projects in the districts for the betterment of the people.
