Mrs Agnes Kusi, Sunyani West District Chief Executive, on Wednesday cut the sod for work to begin on a GH? 395,863.65 police headquarters at Odumase, the district capital.
The two-storey project, being executed by Oasis construction firm, will contain 10 offices, conference room, toilet facilities as well as male, female and juvenile cells. It is expected to be completed within six months.
Mrs Kusi thanked the Awuah Dumase traditional council for releasing land for the project and entreated the Odumase number one traditional council to also support the project. She noted that the district capital is growing at a faster pace and because there is no police post in the area crime is rife.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Maxwell Atingane, Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Commander said modern policing is a shared responsibility and advised the public to release information on people with questionable characters to the police.
He said stakeholders’ role has drastically reduced in the region and expressed optimism that the police-civilian relationship would be strengthened. DCOP Atingane commended the district assembly for the initiative to construct the facility.
