Sunyani West MP inaugurates six classroom gated block

Ignatius Baffour Awuah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani West has inaugurated a six-classroom gated school block for the local Methodist Primary at Dumasua, a farming community in the Constituency in the Bono Region.

Funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) at GhC450, 000.00, through the instrumentality of the MP, the block, in addition, has a store, library, computer laboratory, office and a separate place of convenience for teachers and pupils.

Addressing a mini durbar for the inaugural ceremony, Mr. Awuah assured that, he would facilitate for the Sunyani West District Assembly to procure 10 desktop computers and their accessories to stock the computer laboratory.

He said making education accessible for every Ghanaian child is one of the key policies of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government under the Free Senior High School (FSHS) Programme, promoting education had been one of his priority projects in the constituency.

This, the MP explained was because besides being the cornerstone for the rapid and holistic development of any nation, “education is the surest way to deal with child labour”.

He appealed to the leadership of the Methodist Church in the community to assist the school Management to train the pupils not only with emphasis on the academic work but also in a godly-manner for them to progress in their education as children with “very good and well-formed character” to become responsible adults.

As part of the programme, Mr. Awuah who is also the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations distributed a pair of footwear to every pupil of the school to motivate and sustain their interest in education.

Madam Patricia Konadu Adjei, the Head teacher said the school commenced operation on September 01, 2013 with 40 pupils and two volunteer teachers but its enrolment now is 105 with 12 teachers including one under the Nation Builders’ Corp Programme.

Mad. Adjei pleaded with the MP to assist for the school to be hooked unto the school feeding programme to support parents and guardians to cater for the children well.

She also appealed to the District Assembly, the Sunyani Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, Philanthropists and charitable organisations to assist the school with some indispensable facilities such furniture and electricity without which it could not function to expectation.

Nana Addo Kyeremeh, the ‘Kurontirehene’ of Dumasua on behalf of the traditional authority of the community commended the MP for his effort in the construction of school block, saying “you promise and deliver, you’re really a man of the people”.

Nana Kyeremeh assured that they would maintain the block for not only the benefit of the current generation of pupils but generation yet unborn for the general progress of the community.
