The Asante-Akim Central Municipal Assembly has presented five packets of roofing sheets to the Church of Christ Basic School at Praaso, in the Municipality, towards the construction of a classroom block.
The donation follows an appeal by authorities of the school towards the project, an initiative of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA).
Mrs. Susan Akomeah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who made the donation on behalf of the Assembly at a brief ceremony, applauded the PTA for initiating the project.
She said the Assembly was committed to supporting self-help projects, adding that, the provision of infrastructure at all levels of education was not the responsibility of government alone, but all stakeholders.
She said her office was committed to improving educational infrastructure at the basic level to ensure more pupils qualified to benefit from the free senior high school policy.
This, the MCE noted, would require a concerted effort with all key stakeholders in the education sector.
Mr Peter Okyere, Head teacher of the School, who received the donation commended the Assembly for the swift response to their appeal and called on other institutions and philanthropists to follow suit.
