Suspend transfer of District Co-ordinating Director

New Abirim (E/R), Oct. 17, GNA - The Staff and Assembly Members of the Birim North District Assembly have appealed to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to suspend the transfer of the District Co-ordinating Director, Mr Kenneth Osman, who had spent less than four months working in the district.

Addressing a press conference at New Abirim, the Executive Members of the Assembly, Members of the Civil Servants Association and Heads of Decentralized Departments of the Assembly said since the District had no District Chief Executive, the frequent transfer of District Co-ordinating Directors of the Assembly would affect the smooth administration of the district, They said Mr Osman was posted to the district as the District Co-ordinating Director in June this year after two other Co-ordinating Directors had been transferred within short periods after their arrival in the district.

The Staff and Assembly Members, who were wearing red bands complained that with less than two months for the country's general elections, transfers at such key positions at the assembly would affect the effective administration and development of the district and urged the authorities concerned to rescind their decision. They said the transfer would affect payment of projects executed by the various contractors in the district, since the assembly had already send the name and signature of the substantive Co-ordinating Director to the Controller and Accountant General Department and the bank of Ghana for approval.

They observed that Mr Osman had been able to unite all the decentralized departments by settling all dispute leading to the formation of District Heads of Department Association, since he assumed duty.

Meanwhile the newly posted Co-ordinating Director, Mr John Nana Owuuo has arrived to take over from Mr Osmah. Copies of their petition have been sent to the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, the Eastern Regional Co-ordinating Director, the Member of Parliament for the Abirim constituency and the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister Mr Ofosu Asamoah, who is also the Acting District Chief Executive,
