Swedru GPRTU commends government

Agona-Swedru (C/R), Jan. 6, GNA - The Agona Swedru-Accra No.4 branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has described as "fruitful and commendable" the co-operation the GPRTU had enjoyed from the government over the past four years.

According to Mr. Isaac Kwadwo Otoo, popularly called "ADOM", Chairman of the branch, this has proved critics of the government towards the GPRTU completely wrong.

Mr. Otoo was addressing an emergency executive meeting of the union at Agona-Swedru.

He said members of the branch union wholeheartedly welcome government's decision to order an unspecified number of mini buses for distribution to the various drivers unions in the country, and urged it to endeavour to implement the plan.

He said the move "shows the love and commitment government has for the union and the transport industry in general."

Mr. Otoo assured the government that leaders of the GPRTU would work harder to ensure safe driving by commercial drivers operating under the union to reduce accidents on the country's roads.

He appealed to the government to ensure timely completion of construction work on the Mallam-Yamoransa trunk road.
