TAMASCO marked its 20th speech and prize given day

29th march, 2014 Tamale Senior High School(TAMASCO), which is the light and pride of the North in the delivery of Secondary Education in Ghana, marked its 19th speech and prize given day, under the Theme-“the Role of parents in the Delivery of Quality Education in Ghana” was graced by the, Honourable Northern Regional minister Alhaji Mohammed- Muniru Limuna, with a called on parents to imbibed in their children the moral aptitude and the level of support needed to give to their children.

This according to him would help them to become future responsible citizens in Ghana, since the role of parents in the delivery of quality education in the Country is crucial given that parents provide children the basic needs necessary for their wards to study “He tasked.

The Northern Regional Minister made these remarks recently, in Tamale, at the Northern Regional Capital, during the 19th speech and prize given day at the Tamasco.

Alhaji Limuna disclosed that in 2013, Tamasco ranked 5th out 34 Senior High schools in the region with a percentage of 86.8, saying that all quest should be made by the school authorities to maintain such an enviable feat and even enhanced upon such achievement.

The Minister said government in its bid to improve upon the quality of teaching and learning in schools, would intensify the monitoring and supervision of teachers, He cautioned. He added that government will also ensure that all major stakeholders play their expected role to achieve the desired impact in the educational sector.

Alhaji Limuna, hinted that plans are also far advance by the government to upgrade polytechnics, to degree awarding institutions in the country.

He further admonished all and sundry in the region to ensure a proper time concept in their engagements in order to advance the socio- cultural, economic and the infrastructural development for the Nation.

Honourable Northern Regional Minister, who himself an old Tamascans Commended the school for the academic credentials it has attained over the years.

In his welcome addressed The Sangnarigu District Director of Education, Alhaji Iddi Mahama Ibrahim, said education develop a credible and human resource base for the country, hence there was the need for the country to inject the right investment in in the sector.

The Senior prefect of the school, Master Prince Adjei Opoku, intimated that teachers should be motivated such that quality teaching and learning can be improved in the school. On his part the Headmaster of the School, Alhaji Naa T. A. Mahama, used the occasion to appealed to the government to endeavour to wall the school compound. This according to him would ward-off encroachers and miscreants from the school compound. In his key note addressed the Dean of Faculty of Agri Business and Communication Studies at the University for the Development Studies, Professor Amin Alhassan, noted that one of the reasons that accounts for poor performance of students, was that most of them engaged in occultism instead of studying, stressing that this unacceptable behavioural must be weeded- out in all the schools. Meanwhile, Tamasco was established in 1951, as a model government secondary school in Tamale, to provide quality education for the inhabitants in the Northern Sector. Present at the function were some Traditional rulers, Regional Directorate of education as well as some political heads in the Region.
