TANOE Launches the Girl Empowered

... Skills Bootcamps to Train a 1000 Teenage Girls in Entrepreneurial Skills


The African Network of Entrepreneurs (TANOE), a leading social enterprise in entrepreneurship and skills development in Ghana has launched the GirlEmpowered Skills Bootcamps on Friday the 1st of July 2016 at TANOEhub, Dansoman, Accra, Ghana. Aimed at training and equipping a 1000 teenage girls with entrepreneurial and employable skills yearly, TANOE seeks by this initiative to boost the confidence, skills sets and encourage entrepreneurship amongst girls.


The GirlEmpowered Skills Bootcamp was kickstarted with a one day training in Photography, Beads Making and Makeup. Lasting for over 5 hours, the training was engaging, insightful and empowering with a total of 50 girls in attendance. The workshop was structured such that each participant had the opportunity of being exposed to all three skills which enabled them make informed decisions on which skill they liked most and would want further training on.


The Workshop was facilitated by industry professionals who have signed up as volunteer mentors on the GirlEmpowered Skills Bootcamp. Amongst these volunteer mentors are Naa Dedei Solomon, Queen Akosua Nyametse, Elsie Sagoe, Karim Abdul, Pearl Brigid Aryee, Joyce Owusu, Senam Millicent Quao and Adelaide Baah-Frimpong. Sponsors for the maiden edition were Cylabite, IConceptsPR and TANOEhub.


Comments by participants after the training was encouraging with their vivid anticipation of subsequent sessions being an indication of the tremendous success and need for the Skills Bootcamp. In a conversation with the founder and CEO of TANOE; Mr. Ekow Mensah reiterated the need for entrepreneurial skills training and development as an effective tool in curbing challenges faced by the youth in general and girls in particular including but not limited to unemployment, lack of employable skills, social vices, teenage pregnancy and many more. He expressed his excitement at the successful launch of the GirlEmpowered Skills Bootcamp and added that it is TANOE's way of contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Developments Goal of empowering all women and girls.


GirlEmpowered is a not for profit project of The African Network of Entrepreneurs (TANOE) aimed at promoting the sustained empowerment and skills development of teenage girls. Focused on ensuring that girls are empowered to overcome the challenges they face, GirlEmpowered positions them to be self-confident, independent, assertive, outstanding leaders, entrepreneurs and exceptional home builders through training, mentorship, coaching, networking & capacity building events and initiatives.
