TESCON Congratulates UTAG for calling off strike

Kumasi, Sept. 24, GNA - The University of Education, Winneba, Kumasi Campus branch of the Tertiary Students' Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed its appreciation to the University Teachers' Association of Ghana (UTAG) for calling off its strike and returning to the lecture halls.

A statement issued in Kumasi on Wednesday and signed by Mr Arnold Boateng, TESCON President, said now that the strike was over, the government and UTAG could work together to arrive at a decision, which would be in the best interest of both parties and the nation. The statement called on the government to show enough commitment to the on-going dialogue so as to win the confidence of UTAG, saying, "it is our firm belief that the government has a unique tradition of upholding the interest of the intelligentsia on our universities at heart".

"In the course of the deliberations, difficulties are bound to surface. In such circumstances, we trust that maturity of the negotiating parties will prevail at the end of the day", the statement said.
