TEWU suspends strike action

Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has suspended their strike action with effect from Wednesday to enable negotiations to resolve their grievances to continue.

Accordingly, it has called on all its members in the Ghana Education Service (GES) to “suspend the strike action until further notice”.

In a press release issued in Accra on Wednesday and signed by Raph Apaaya and Mr Peter Lumor, acting General Secretary and National Chairman, said the decision was taken at a meeting of the Management Committee on Wednesday.

The release said members expressed optimism that their grievances including the payment of the 15 per cent critical support premium to eleven classes of the non-teaching staff of the GES and the non-payment of over time allowances to security staff among others would resolved to forestall further action.

Sometime last week President John Mahama appealed to TEWU and other related bodies to call off their strike action whiles their grievances were being looked into.
