Tema, Jan. 29, GNA -- The Tema Municipal Assembly, on Friday awarded 32 facilitators of the Non-Formal Education Division (NFED), for their good services in their various communities.
The facilitators, who had trained over 600 adult learners in basic Literacy Skills in reading, writing and numerical ability received roofing sheets and sewing machines as incentives for their services between the year 2000 and 2002.
In a speech read on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, the Presiding Member, Nii Adotey Abotsi the second, Of the TMA said although some people could not have access to formal education, through informal education most of them have been able to acquire knowledge and skills which have helped them improve on their trade and profession.
He commended the facilitators for their good work for their sacrificial contributions towards the nation's development. He announced the Assembly's preparedness to support the Zonal Supervisors to organise and maintain Community Advisory Committees within their zones.
Members of the committee would include Assembly Members, Traditional Rulers, Opinion Leaders and Religious leaders would advise and assist the Zonal Supervisors in the smooth running of the classes.
In her welcome address, the Municipal Co-ordinator of NFED, Ms Ellen Darko, stated that the learners, aside being taken through Government Policies, also went through extra curricular activities and other outdoor programmes that added to facilitate their learning process.
In accordance with the Functional Literacy Programme the Adult learners have also been engaged in various income generating activities to help alleviate their poverty, she added.
