The Ashanti Regional Police Command maintains that it will not sanction the police officer who shot and killed a rioter in the heat of skirmishes between Zongo Youth and Traditional authorities at Old Tafo in the Ashanti Region.

Twenty-Five (25) -year old Sulemana Husmin was shot and killed by an unnamed police officer on guard duties at Atwima Kwanwoma Rural Bank, a local rural bank in the area but the police administration has justified his action.

Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Yussif Tanko on the Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted by Lantam Papanko indicated that no action will be applied against the said officer.

“It is true the deceased was shot and killed by the police. The policeman was justified in killing the deceased …he did not die as a result of the confusion”, he disclosed.

According to him, the deceased was endangering the lives of others and if he was not stopped, he could have caused extensive havoc to lives and property.

“He was the one causing serious damage to the properties of a local bank in the area. And when the officer on guard the bank confronted him he tried to harm him so he was shot leading to his death”, he added.

Meanwhile cousin of the deceased earlier denied claims his relation was involved in the violence which led to the destruction of several private properties in the area.

“He is my cousin and he is not a thief. He was just passing by and was shot by the policeman. He is a hardworking boy. We want the matter to be properly investigated”, the family revealed.
