Tailorkrom community appeals for school

Nkoranza (B/A), Feb. 22, GNA - Residents of Tailorkrom, a farming community in Nkoranza District have appealed to the Nkoranza District Directorate of Education to establish a school to enable the growing youth in the area to acquire formal education.

Mr Lawrence Butelnaa, Chairman of the Unit Committee told Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza that, the people started a school in 1991 but it collapsed in 1996, as a result of poor enrolment.

"Since then children of school going age in the community have not had access to education as the town is far from its catchment areas and the children cannot walk the distance", he said.

The Unit Committee chairman said the children had therefore been roaming in the streets or joined their parents on the farms.

Mr Butelnaa said the people were ready to provide accommodation for the school children and teachers who would be posted there and called on the Nkoranza District Directorate to help.

He appealed to the District Assembly to provide a borehole in the area to save the lives of the people, who depended on the Pru river.
