"Take Grasscutter Rearing More Seriously" - Dr. Amoah

Takoradi, Oct. 26 - GNA - Dr. King David Amoah, National Coordinator of Ecumenical Association for Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development (ECASARD) has advised Ghanaians, particularly the youth to take grasscutter rearing seriously to increase their incomes.

He said this at a day's workshop on grasscutter production at Takoradi on Tuesday, which was on the theme; "Raising your income and conserving natural resource".

One hundred and fifty-eight participants including farmers, students, teachers, Prisons and Police officers attended the workshop. Mr. Amoah said there is a National scheme on grasscutter production for 134 non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and Farm Based Organisations (FBOs) in the seven Southern Regions of the country.

ECASARD has established sister organisations in the three Northern Regions and hopes to increase production in the next two years by using less chemicals but more organic material for grasscutter rearing. Mr. John K. Gyimah of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) speaking on grasscutter production said all grasscutter farmers should form associations to increase production and earn high incomes from their products.

He said it would also influence government policies on agriculture and the wrongful use of dangerous chemicals to trap grasscutter for human consumption.
