Kumasi, July 23, GNA- Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has advised teachers to be disciplined to dignify their profession.
He reminded teachers that they have been trained to be role models to children and community members and should therefore comport themselves in the face of difficulties.
Mr Boafo was speaking at the 4th graduation ceremony of the Wesley College in Kumasi on Saturday.
Two hundred and fifty graduands made up of 108 females and 149 males were outdoored as three year Certificate "A" teachers and the programme was under the theme: "the disciplined teacher, a necessity for quality education in our schools".
Mr Boafo said the theme for the graduation was appropriate considering the bad behaviour of some teachers.
He expressed regret that even though teaching was a noble profession and teachers played a significant role in the development of children, some teachers resorted to acts that affected their profession. Mr Boafo noted that the government's effort at developing the country's human resource base could not be achieved without the role of teachers.
Mr Anyan Badu-Fordjour, Principal of the College, expressed concern about indiscipline among some students, which led to their suspension and dismissal.
He said criminal gangs had for many times broken the fence wall of the College to carry out nefarious activities but the situation had now been brought under control with the assistance from the Suame Police who also helped to destroy a secret gym, which was uncovered at the College. Mr Badu-Fordjour appealed for additional classroom block and a bus for the college.
