Teachers face accommodation problems at Okanta

Odumase Okanta (E/R), May 6, GNA - Teachers of the Odumase
Okanta Presbyterian Basic School in the East Akim Municipality in the
Eastern Region are facing accommodation difficulties that make them walk
several kilometres to school. Mr Owusu-Adjei Nattor, Assistant head teacher, has, therefore, appeale= d
to the Education Directorate in the Municipality to construct teachers'
quarters in the town to promote effective teaching and learning. Mr Nattor told the Ghana News Agency at Okanta, near Odumase, that
there were not enough rental houses so almost all the teachers were living
out of the town. This is because buildings in the school's environment were designed and
constructed as family homes. Mr Nattor explained that only storage rooms or teenagers' rooms were
sometimes available and these were small places not convenient for couples
or tenants with children. The school, built in 1946 by the community, has a population of 300.
