Teachers urged to upgrade their knowledge and teaching methods

Bechem (B/A) Sept. 17, GNA - Mr Charles Benjamin Mensah, Principal of St. Joseph's College of Education at Bechem in the Brong Ahafo Region has advised teachers to constantly upgrade their knowledge and teaching methods to enhance their work. Mr Mensah was addressing 307 teachers and circuit supervisors drawn from Tano South and Asunafo South districts at a five-day intensive workshop at Bechem.

The workshop was organised and sponsored by ibis, an NGO in conjunction with the college to provide in service training for the participants. Mr Mensah noted that without teachers, no quality education could be obtained and called on them and the circuit supervisors to redouble their efforts and help improve the standard of education in the two districts. Mr Isaac Adjei-Mensah, workshop coordinator, said one of the yardsticks of a good teacher was patience and urged the participants to eschew practices and attitudes that would cast a slur on their profession. Mr Prosper Nyavor, ibis representative for the two districts, appealed to the teachers to use the knowledge they had acquired at the workshop to guide their teaching. The workshop covered subject areas such as Mathematics, Science, English and Technical Skills. 17 Sept. 08
