Techiman Krontihemaa files motion against self-imposed chief

The Krontri division of the Techiman Traditional Council has filed a motion at a Sunyani High Court, seeking an order to restrain one Mr Yaw Konadu, a citizen of Techiman resident in the United States, from posing as the Krontihene of the Techiman Traditional Council.

Nana Amoafowaa Adjeiwaa, Krontihemaa of the Techiman Traditional Area, said the purported installation of Mr Konadu, spearheaded by some sub-chiefs, at the Techiman Traditional Council, was uncustomary, and goes contrary to the traditional norms and practices of the Krontri Royal Family.

An accompanying affidavit filed by Nana Obiri Boahen of the “Enso Nyame Ye Chambers," counsel for the plaintiff, and made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday, said the supposed installation of Mr Konadu is contemptuous and opprobrious, and is likely to trigger and foment chaos in Techiman.

“As the Queen-mother of the Krontri stool, I am the only person clothed with the capacity to nominate a candidate for consideration as the Krontihene of the Techiman Traditional Area," it said.

According to the affidavit, since the death of the late Nana Opoku Abankwah, Krontihene of Techiman in 2012, there had been a dispute over the line of succession, which is pending before the judicial committee of the Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs.

It said, “by styling and referring to himself as the Krontihene of the Techiman Traditional Council, is a conduct and willfully and maliciously done in order to scandalize the administration of justice, and undermine the entire legal process pending before the judicial committee, and expose the administration of justice to public ridicule and contempt”.
