Tema, Nov. 18, GNA - Alhaji Mustapha Ali Iddris, Minister of Works and Housing, noted on Wednesday that since security was the bedrock of any democracy, efforts by public -spited individuals and organisations to support the security agencies to discharge their duties effectively is commendable.
He therefore lauded the commitment of resources by the Tema Development Committee (TDC) for the construction of a 450 million-cedi police station and two staff bungalows for Tema Community One. Alhaji Iddris whose speech was read on his half at the commissioning of the police station tasked land developers especially real estate developers, to provide security posts for the residential areas.
Nana Owusu Nsiah, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) called on the public to volunteer information on criminals to the Police, as a civic responsibility to support the frantic efforts to curb crime. He said under a pilot project the Police would work in partnership with local people to identify latent crime problems and take premptive steps.
The IGP expressed the hope that residents in the municipality would embrace the concept and offer their cooperation to ensure its success.
Nana Owusu Nsiah advised residents against uncomplimentary acts that could mar the success of Election 2004.
The Managing Director of the TDC, Ms Elizabeth Mansa Banson said the police station project was initiated to support efforts of the Police to improve on security in the Municipality.
