Tema ECG supports communities with streetlights

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is supporting communities in its Tema Region operational areas by providing streetlights to aid in better visibility at night. The project is a corporate social responsibility initiative by the power distributor as a means of giving back to the various communities and making them safer at night.

The Tema Region ECG is undertaking this project in close association with the various Assembly Members in the communities, as they can help determine the priority areas in the localities. The project also seeks to replace faulty streetlights.

Sakyiwaa Mensah, the ECG Tema Region PRO, explained: "This project is on streetlights and not on pole replacements. In that case, if there happens to be a weak pole, a streetlight will not be mounted on it and that pole will be replaced soon."

Ms. Mensah, in thanking the Assembly Members and community members for their support of the project, said, "Some have provided open spaces for the teams to assemble the lights before fixing. Some have also provided them with water voluntarily, and for this, we appreciate."

Ms. Mensah made these comments on Tema-based Plan B FM.

The project started in the Tema Region in October 2024. Some communities, such as those under its Tema South District, have already had the streetlights fixed. Other communities will be handled soon as scheduled.
