The compound of Mante Din Basic School in Tema Community One has been turned into a refuse dump and a place of convenience by some residents in the area.

The compound, now a vast space for the commission of all what are criminal, unhealthy and immoral, is located in Tema Community One Site 17.

When the Ghana News Agency visited the compound, there were unsightly moulds of human faeces and refuse scattered all over the place.

The GNA also observed that refuse had been piled at various parts of the compound, a situation students of the school said was a daily occurrence.

Some of the students and teachers who pleaded anonymity expressed worry at the behaviour of the residents who they said were practising open defecation at the school in addition to littering and stealing items from the school.

They noted that instead of taking their refuse to the nearest site at Kwasiajwaaso market, recalcitrant residents preferred dumping on the school compound under the cover of darkness, while others threw polythene containing excreta onto it.

They lamented that they had to clean and burn refuse every day when they report to school before settling to learn.

They, therefore, appealed to the TMA and other agencies to help fence.
