A cargo truck traveling under military escort was attacked by unidentified gunmen in the Missiga suburb of Bawku on Thursday, January 16, according to a myjoynews.com report.

According to the report, the truck, which was en route from the border town of Kulungugu to Bawku township, came under gunfire when the attackers, hidden in a nearby location, ambushed the vehicle.

The assailants are reported to have fled the scene immediately after the attack, and no casualties were reported.

The escalating violence in Bawku is believed to stem from the protracted chieftaincy conflict between the Kusasi and Mamprusi factions, which has left the Upper East Region town in a state of unrest.

This attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents that have plagued the area, highlighting the persistent insecurity in the region.
