Tepre Hodo slams politicians for discourteous behaviour

Anfoega (V/R), May 16, GNA - Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, Paramount Chief of Anfoega, on Saturday expressed desperation about what he perceive as the disregard of Ghanaian politicians for the sensibilities of the people. Togbe Tepre Hodo, also Legal Practitioner, demanded that civil society found ways of registering disapproval of the way politicians take advantage of the people.

He made the observation when he presided over the 45th Anniversary and Speech and Prize-Giving Day of the Anfoega Senior High School at Anfoega, which was delayed for hours because of the late arrival of the political dignitaries.

"They have taken advantage of us for far too long and we must tell our leaders that we can't afford to allow things to continue this way. "Ladies and Gentlemen I am sure leadership must be by example and wonder what examples we are showing the young ones here who have been waiting so long without any explanation," Togbe Tepre Hodo chided. The anniversary, which was on the theme: "45 years of Community Education, Challenges and the Way Forward," was billed to commence at 0930 hours but was delayed until 1244 hours. The organisers thereafter allowed for long periods of musical performances as the gathering waited for the dignitaries who arrived at around 1411 hours.

Mr Alex Tettey-Enyo, Minister of Education and Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister apologised to the gathering when they mounted the podium to address the gathering after an hour's inspection of a guard of honour mounted by the school's Army Cadet Corps. Ms Margaret Katty Krampah, Headmistress said the school with a current enrolment of 706, made up of 389 girls and 317 boys was doing well in the academics and other areas.

She said the school needed an infrastructure beef-up, including classrooms, dormitory for boys, administration block, staff bungalows and a dining hall.

Mr Peter Hayibor, Board Chairman said the school founded as a Teacher Training College and later transformed into a secondary school had battled problems over the years to become a prime human resource training base for the traditional area.

Mr Tettey-Enyo and Mr Amenowode jointly cut the sod to inaugurate a GHc350,000 Ghana Education Trust Fund funded girl's dormitory built to commemorate the school's 40th anniversary, a computer laboratory and a bus provided by the Parent Teacher Association. 16 May 10
