Takoradi, July 25, GNA - Mr Dan Okwaisie, Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Budget Officer at the weekend, called on the media to help "Close the gap" between the people and district assemblies to facilitate development in the rural areas.
He said the assemblies were not getting the required co-operation from the public, because of the misconception some people had about the functions of the assemblies.
Mr Okwaisie, who made the call when launching the Telescope newspaper, published by the Youthlink Communication Group at Takoradi, also urged the media to educate the people on the need to regularly pay their taxes to the assemblies.
Mr Francis Eghan, an opinion leader from the area noted that, the media had played a significant role in the development of the country and expressed the hope that the Telescope would help in maintaining such tradition.
He urged the newspaper to publish news that would help to unite the people in the Western Region, who had diverse cultural background. Mr Louis Henry Danso, the Editor of the newspaper, promised the public that the newspaper would uphold high journalistic standards.
