The people of Ahwerease to get electricity

Nsawam (E/R), April 26, GNA- The chiefs and people of Ahwerease, a farming community, near Nsawam in the Akwapem South District have erected 15 low-tension poles to tap electricity from Adoagyiri, near Nsawam at a cost of 17 million cedis.

Mr. Attah Gyakari, Unit Committee Chairman of Ahwerease told the Ghana News Agency that the project was funded through contributions of 40,000 cedis a man and 30,000 cedis a woman each with support through communal labour.

He said about five more poles would be needed to complete the project and appealed to non-resident citizens of the town to assist the community materially or in cash to facilitate its completion.

Nana Atweri Kwaakye II, chief of Ahwerease who had donated two million cedis as his personal contribution towards the project commended the people for their communal spirit and called on them to kept it up. He said the provision of the electricity would assist the unemployed in the community to establish cottage industries while it would also prevent them from migrating to urban centres in search of white-collar jobs.

Nana Kwaakye appealed to the Akwapem South District Assembly, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to support the project.
