The people of Kyerebuoso construct a market

Kyerebuoso (Ash), Nov 27, GNA- A sod-cutting ceremony was on Friday performed at Kyerebuoso near Asokwa in the Adansi North District for the construction of a modern market estimated at 170 million cedis. The project is to be funded by the people with the support of some non-government organisations (NGOs).

Mr Bernard Appiah Okyere, President of the Benderoya Foundation International (BFI), an Accra NGO, speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, said the organisation aimed at championing the cause of the rural communities to offer communal labour for projects that would improve their lot.

He said other projects to be undertaken include rural water supply, oil palm and gari processing plants to serve the community and 25 surrounding communities.

He also said as part of the package, the communities are to benefit from the production of livestock, snails and mushroom rearing and poultry farming to enable them boost their incomes. Mr Okyere disclosed that the foundation is soliciting for funds from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) and other organisations to fund the projects. Nana Agyen Barima III, chief of Kyerebuoso, who performed the sod-cutting ceremony, emphasised the importance of initiating their own projects for their betterment. He announced that special levies would be instituted and fund-raising harvests organised to raise funds to support the projects. Mr Enoch Osei, Manager of the Rural Enterprise Project in the Amansie East District, appealed to the people to form groups to enable them to access financial assistance.
